An update from Top Banana, following the government’s roadmap announcement
This week we the government announced a roadmap that outlines how lockdown restrictions will be eased in England, and it’s given us the hope we all needed. Finally, it feels like there is light at the end of the tunnel and we can start thinking about face-to-face meetings and events again. As we begin to navigate the PM’s new roadmap, our leadership team is predicting how they see the industry recovering.
What our leaders think
Our Director of Venues, Louise Goalen comments “Whilst there is still some time between now and June, and still chances the timeline may be reviewed and extended, we have finally been given a glimpse of what the rest of 2021 will hold for us all. In the last couple of weeks, we’ve really noticed an increase in enquiries and bookings, as people’s confidence grows and the world without social restrictions becomes more of a reality.”
From May 17th, or 5 weeks after step 2 (view full roadmap here), controlled indoor events of up to 1,000 people or 50% of a venue’s capacity, whichever is lower, will be permitted, as will outdoor events with a capacity of either 50% or 4,000 people (whichever is lower). Excitedly, in addition to that, pilots will run as part of the Events Research Programme to examine how such events can take place without the need for social distancing using other mitigations such as testing.
Top Banana recently interviewed Peter Groom, from ALHI, around what the future holds for our industry and bringing back events, meetings and international travel, he commented: “If you are thinking of holding a physical event later in the year, you need to get the planning started now or you may find you will not get the location or venue you had your heart set on.”
Our Managing Director Jemma Peers concurred “With the announcement this week, we know that people will be starting to think about their live experiences, what we would say is get in touch early as venues are expected to get a surge in bookings for the latter half of 2021 – with news such as Reading and Leeds festival going ahead it’s very likely large events at the end of summer will be a possibility and those who book now with good cancellation policies in place will be in better positions”
Keeping things virtually the same
Whilst we are all hopeful, it’s natural that we are also still slightly apprehensive when it comes to COVID-19 and the government announcing any further change. However, the end is in sight, and businesses need to start planning now for the second half of 2021 and beyond! Until then, Our facilities will remain open and we’re going above and beyond to keep everyone safe. For us, it’s about instilling confidence into our clients, staff, suppliers, and crew that we can push forward with our scheduled events, film shoots and live broadcasts with the following measures…
- RAPID TESTING
We’ve upped the ante and now have a stringent testing process in place for all our staff, crew, clients, and outsourced suppliers. Rapid testing is required for any on and off-site event and we’ve already hosted events in 2020 with a 15-minute test turnaround, meaning seamless, safe experience for everyone. Any one of our staff working on a project that results in a live broadcast are required to be tested every 2 days and we’ve got a dedicated team in place to manage our testing process and control the number of people on site.
We’re working from home! Our offices are only being used for broadcasting so you can know that when you come into our on-site studio, it’s exclusive to you and your team
- SQUEAKY CLEAN
Our cleaning and sanitisation operation is stringent, our offices and studio are set up as one-way systems and we’ve got a track and trace system in place for anyone coming on-site – including temperature checks and contact questionnaires on arrival. We’re COVID-19 compliant and have our government secure certification – however, if you want to know more about our initiatives you can get in touch with the team to put your mind at ease using firstname.lastname@example.org
We’re ready to go and are continuing to work with new and existing clients on bringing their messages to life in the safest but most innovative and engaging ways possible, but if you want to speak to us to put your mind at rest we’re always here on the end of the phone to give you all the answers you need!
