Brazil…. said to be one of the world’s most captivating places with its diverse landscapes which range from powdery white-sand beaches to lush rainforests and rhythm-filled cities. Not to mention the iconic Christ the Redeemer, famous Copacabana beach and the lively Brazilian carnivals.
No wonder Polly, one of our venue sourcing specialists, jumped at the opportunity to join a 5-day FAM trip to this beautiful country. Belmond Hotels worked with Events by TLC, Iguassu Convention and Visitors Bureau and British Airways to make this this an absolutely unforgettable experience.
Belmond Copacabana Palace
The first couple of days were spent in the energetic city of Rio where the group stayed at the stunning Belmond Copacabana Palace…a hotel that has been a much-frequented by the rich and famous which is all evidenced in the legendary “golden book”. It has been signed by some seriously impressive names…including Princess Diana!
Still a little jet lagged from the 8-hour flight, it was a surreal moment when celebrity chef Ken Hom greeted the group at the MEE restaurant. This stunning pan-Asian eatery is one of the best in Rio and was one of the first to be awarded a Michelin star.
Whilst in Rio Polly did it all…. taking an open top jeep through the Tijuca forest, leading to Mount Corcovado, the home of the infamous Christ the Redeemer, visiting the Museum of Tomorrow (which included some impressive event space) and experiencing the breath-taking views from Sugar Loaf Mountain. It really does have a lot to offer as a destination with so much to do and see…you could never get bored in this city.
One of the highlights for Polly was the evening at the Olympic Park for the Rockin’ Rio Festival. The atmosphere was incredible with the headline act, Aerosmith adding to the energy and spectacular scenes. Whilst the Olympic Park may have caused some controversy and negativity during its initial build…there is no doubt that they have turned this in to a great event space and are maximizing the investment spent.
Next stop on the agenda was Iguazu Falls…somewhere that Polly says is a must see when visiting Brazil to experience the contrast of both places. Just a 2-hour flight inland, the impressive Iguazu Falls separates the Iguazu River into its upper and lower sections and is situated along the border between Argentina and Brazil. The group stayed at the Belmond Hotel Das Cataratas which is located right next to the falls, providing Polly with probably the best hotel view she’s ever had!
The experience here was just phenomenal, being shown Iguazu Falls by land, air and sea. You’ve guessed it…not only did they go in a boat under the falls (quite literally) they were also taken by helicopter over the falls. A jaw dropping ‘pinch me’ moment for the group.
During their stay they experienced a traditional forest dinner, welcomed by locals and danced around a fire… a true juxtaposition from the luxury hotels they had previously been dining in.
We asked Polly to describe her Brazil experience in 3 words, she said: Vibrant, unique and exhausting (she recommends a 4-night minimum stay in order to see and do everything!)
Whilst Brazil offers a great range of event space, Polly suggests they may not quite be ready to host large-scale conferences just yet. However, if you are looking for an exclusive location for a leadership event or for a meeting for under 100, Brazil had a lot to offer with some seriously impressive hotels and event spaces
But for us…Brazil is the perfect destination for an impressive and memorable incentive trip. Why? It’s a place that people wouldn’t necessarily go on a family holiday, but is an ideal destination for going in groups where everything is planned and an itinerary set…and trust us there is plenty of trips, sights and activities to keep a group entertained.
Brazil definitely delivered above anything Polly expected and has got itself a position on her top 5 destinations list of all times.
