On Saturday 9th June Top Banana proudly sponsored and attended The Big Yak conference hosted at etc. venues Marble Arch in London. Representing Top Banana were CEO Richard Bridge and Account Director Marc Hazelden.
It was a fantastic day of networking and discussion, with the content being led by the attendees themselves in a true unconference style event.
For an uninitiated, an unconference is ‘a participant-driven meeting’. In simple terms, this means that delegates turn up and decided between themselves what topics are up for debate and whether they want to get involved. If you want to find out more about unconferences, check out our handy guide to unconferences here.
With record-breaking 160 delegates attending, there was an opportunity for the internal comms community to define and discuss the burning IC issues keeping them awake at night.
Topics ranged from ‘connecting global organisations’ and ‘CEO Comms and corporate reputation’ to ‘Tackling tech takeover and saturation’ and ‘operationalising values and behaviours’.
A big topic that Top Banana identified was the role of line managers and their crucial part in organisational communication. There was a topic dedicated to this ‘Helping Line Managers become better communicators’ which was well attended and included some great discussion.
Marc Hazelden comments “Top Banana have sponsored The Big Yak for the last three years, but this was my first time attending and found the whole experience very insightful. The ‘unconference’ format worked really well and meant that delegates got to talk about the challenges they were facing and takeaway some really useful information shared by all the delegates that got involved.”
